youth

In January 2026, the OCYI Steering Committee officially launched the Youth Task Group. Previously, the Critical Hours Task Group focused on children and youth ages 6–18; however, it became clear that the programs, services, and supports for middle years children and for youth are distinct and require dedicated focus. Organizations involved in the Critical Hours Task Group played an instrumental role in shaping the mandate of the Youth Task Group. OCYI is now engaging youth-serving organizations across Ottawa to build membership and strengthen this new table.

Mandate

To ensure that youth in Ottawa (13-24 years) have equitable access to high-quality programs, services, and supports that foster safety, belonging, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities for growth.  The Youth Task Group works to strengthen environments where youth can thrive by increasing accessibility and advancing four core principles of positive youth development:

  1. Safe and Inclusive Spaces
  2. Supportive, Caring and Mentoring Relationships
  3. Opportunities for Skill-Building, Leadership, and Engagement
  4. Accessibility to Services and Supports

We are looking for organizations that work with youth and representatives from youth-serving tables and initiatives.
